Application
- Desiccant: Utilized for its hygroscopic properties to dry gases or organic liquids.
- Snow-melting agent: Lowers the freezing point of water; applied to roads to prevent icing and melt existing ice.
- Refrigerant: Can be formulated into a brine solution for use as a low-temperature cooling bath, capable of reaching temperatures around -51°C.
- Food additive: Approved for use in the EU; serves as a firming agent in products such as canned vegetables. It maintains crispness and firmness in canned fruits and vegetables, and the U.S. FDA classifies it as a substance generally recognized as safe (GRAS).
- Construction additive: Accelerates concrete hardening; however, due to the risk of chloride ions causing rebar corrosion, it cannot be used in reinforced concrete.
